CARLISLE, Herbert Samuel Herbert Samuel Carlisle, 92, of the Elmwood section of West Hartford, beloved husband of Madgalen (Rushford) Carlisle, died Friday, (March 25, 2005) at Hartford Hospital. Born and raised in Hartford, he was the son of the late Samuel Robert and Lillian Mae (Hughes) Carlisle and had lived in Elmwood since 1942. Mr. Carlisle was employed at Chandler-Evans for many years and retired from Colt Industries. He was active in many bowling leagues and a communicant of St. Brigid Church, West Hartford. Mr. Carlisle was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving from January 1941 to December 1945 in the European Theatre, 304th Station Hospital and the post war occupation of Germany. He received the U.S. Army Commendation Medal, the U.S. Army Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the World War II Army of Occupation Medal. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell Herbert Carlisle and his wife Elouise of West Hartford, Robert Ellis Carlisle and his wife, Patricia of West Hartford; three grandsons, Alexander Nathaniel Carlisle, Joseph Herbert Carlisle and Daniel Ellis Carlisle all of West Hartford; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Carlisle was predeceased by a brother, Spencer Robert Carlisle and a sister, Eunice May Carlisle. Funeral procession will be Tuesday, 8:15 a.m. from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 9 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, West Hartford. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Calling hours are Monday, 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
