Helen C. (Conway) Chapman, 79, of 65 Devens St. died Tuesday after being injured in a car accident in Bernardston. She was a registered nurse, and worked in the office of Dr. Rosario Charron for several years. She retired in 1960. She was previously a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital and the former Wesson Hospital, both in Springfield, and at Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain and the former Farren Memorial Hospital in Montague City. She was born here, and lived in the town most of her life. She was graduated from Greenfield High School in 1933, and from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. During World War II, she was a second lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps in England. She was a communicant of Holy Trinity Church. Her husband, Henry "Chappy" Chapman, died last November. She leaves six nephews, Peter Conway of Cohasset, John Conway of Colrain, Paul Conway of Greenfield, Lawrence Conway of Conway, Richard Conway of Turners Falls, and Francis Conway of San Francisco, Calif., and three nieces, Rosemarie Graves and Gloria Fotopolus of Greenfield, and Rita Dunklee of Lakewood, Calif. A graveside service in Calvary Cemetery will be arranged. There are no calling hours, and Kostanski Funeral Home is in charge.
