Patrick Courtney, 77, of 44 Langdon St., a 21-year clerk for the Postal Service here, died Friday at the Holyoke Soldiers' Home. He retired in 1985. He was previously an X-ray technician with the Hanpden County Tuberculosis and Public Health Association, and worked for the Railway Mail Service, American Bosch Corp., and Albert Steiger Co. He served in the Army in World War II, and was an X-ray technician at the 304th Station Hospital. Born in Bridgeport, Conn., he was a longtime resident here. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School and the Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Church. He was a charter member of American Legion Post 430, and belonged to the Massachusetts Society of X-Ray Technicians, the American Registry of Radiological Technologists, the Friends of the Sisters of St. Joseph, the Cathedral High Booster Club, the Pioneer Valley Boy Scout Council, and the former Springfield Acorns Football Association. His wife, the former Barbara Murphy, died last year. He leaves two sons, Patrick M. of Southampton, and William C. of Springfield, and three grandchildren. Another son, Thomas F., died in 1991. The funeral is Monday morning at Sampson's Liberty Street Funeral Home and the church, with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery.
