SHREWSBURY Rita M. (Harmon) Belanger, 85, of Holden Street in Shrewsbury, passed away, Thursday, March 15, 2007, in the Odd Fellow Home in Worcester. Her husband of forty years, Ernest W. Belanger, predeceased her in 1992. She leaves two sons, Ernest P. Belanger and his companion of twelve years Kimberly McCallum of Shrewsbury and William A. Belanger of Worcester and his three children, Kimberly Tuccio, William E. and Joseph M. Belanger; a brother, Francis A. Harmon of Sutton; a sister, Margaret M. Ford of Worcester; many nieces and nephews. Rita was born in Worcester, daughter of Eugene M. and Margaret V. (Monahan) Harmon, and graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. She then graduated from Saint Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, and served as First Lieutenant and General Nurse in the United States Army, during World War II, at the 304th Station Hospital in Europe.

Rita retired in 1982 from The Belmont Home in Worcester, where she worked as a Registered Nurse; she had previously worked at Cardinal Cushing Veterans Hospital in Framingham, and Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester. She was a member of Saint Joan of Arc Church, American Legion Post 5, Disabled American Veterans Post 4, the Catholic Nurses Alumni, Saint Vincent Hospital Alumni, Shrewsbury Senior Citizens, and the A.A.R.P. Colonial Chapter 4831.

The funeral for Rita will be held Monday, March 19th from MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME and CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint Joan of Arc Church, 500 Lincoln Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in Saint John's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 18th, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
