WEYMOUTH -- Walter W. Kendall, 89, of Weymouth, formerly of West Boylston and Sterling, died at home Thursday, May 2.

He was born in Worcester and later lived in Oakland, Calif., before moving to Sterling in 1948 and then to West Boylston. He moved to Weymouth in 1999.

Mr. Kendall was a substation engineer for the New England Power Co. at Pratts Junction in Sterling, retiring in 1979.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Kendall was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He was an active volunteer in the Meals on Wheels program.

He leaves a son, William W. Kendall of Weymouth; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Kendall of Mellbourne, Australia; a brother, Francis Kendall of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Helen Dudley of Corinth, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

His wife, Anna A. (Argoski) Kendall, died on Sept. 6, 1999.

A funeral Mass will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Francis Xavier Church, 261 Pleasant St.

Burial will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery, Sterling.
