Merle Klavonski, 78, of Academy Street, Plymouth, died Sunday at his home.

Born Feb. 9, 1922, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Rose (Goldstein) Klavonski. He was a 1940 graduate of Plymouth High School and attended Temple University. He was an X-ray technician at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre and worked part-time at Pocono Downs. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater, and was a member of the Pilgrim Congregational Church Choir and sang with the Warm Spots.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Ruth Hughes.

Surviving are his son, William, Pottstown; daughters, Janet L. Stegmann, Phippsburg, Maine; and Rebecca Cragle, Plymouth; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Charlotte Klavonski, Plymouth; and Beth Sendzia, North Cape May, N.J.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Williams Funeral Home, 114 W. Main St., Plymouth, with the Rev. Edward Gospodinsky and Rabbi Larry Kaplan officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.
