John Leidal, a lifetime Akron area resident, born Dec. 29, 1915, passed away July 27, 2008.

John was a loving husband, father and friend. He served four years in the United States Army during World War II. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and served most of his enlistment in the European Theater. John Leidal was a special man of great character and a wonderful sense of humor. He was tall, proud and handsome to the end. He worked for many years as the yard foreman at Carter Jones Lumber and was a faithful member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret and brothers, Paul, George and Andy and son-in-law, Tom Ginn. He is survived by stepdaughter, Joan Ginn and stepson, Robert (Sally) Winer; grandchildren, Michael (Dafne) Ginn, Terry Ginn, Robert J. Winer and Melanie (Matt) Mathis. He also leaves three great-grandchildren, Erin and Abby Ginn and Jason Mathis and several nieces and nephews. John made friends easily and the family wants to acknowledge his special friends, Bob and Helen Myers and Marty Georg.

Calling hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Dunn-Quigley Funeral Home (811 Grant), where Pastor Robert E. Linsz will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, August 1, followed by interment at Mount Peace Cemetery, where Firestone VFW Post 3383 will render military honors.
