PRINCETON -- Lloyd E. Stout Sr. died on Wednesday March 14, 2007, at his home.

Born in Princeton, Mr. Stout was a graduate of Princeton High School, Class of 1942.He attended Rochester Institute prior to being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served three years during World War II in the European Theatre, where he was the head of medical supply and distribution department in the 3rd Army.He was discharged with the rank of technical sergeant.

Lloyd's family settled in Middletown, N.J., after being shipwrecked off Sandy Hook in 1640.The family later settled in the area now known as Hopewell. This initial settlement contained 20 Stouts.Lloyd was a direct descendent of John Hart, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and Penelope Van Princess, the first Mrs. Stout.

He was employed as a divisional supervisor in the rubber industry for 32 years before moving to the chemical field and then into the food industry, retiring in 1988 from Herr Foods.

While in the rubber field he started the companies credit union, becoming its first president and later treasurer.He also began a company softball team, which he managed, and a company mixer bowling league.

Lloyd, who was a familiar sight at Princeton University athletic events, also enjoyed working with young boys, managing in the tiny leagues, Little League, and the Lou Gehrig League. He was also fond of jazz and big band music and was known as an excellent dancer.

Son of the late Elmer and Estella Stout, he is survived by his five children, Gary L. Stout, Lloyd E. Stout II, Debra Gruzlovick, Diane Diaz, and Helen Conti. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Myles A. Stout, Ryan J.. Stout, Kyle Anna Stout, Nick Conti, Dawn Gruzlovick, John Pelehaty, and Staci Stout.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday (March 18) from 4-8 p.m. and Monday from 9-10 a.m. at Kimble Funeral Home, corner of Moore Street and Hamilton Avenue in Princeton.

Burial will be held on Monday at Lower Tinicum Cemetery in Tinicum, Pa.
