LEE -- Joseph E. Tyer, 83, of 23 Fair St., Forestville, Conn., formerly of Lee, died yesterday at Sub Acute Center of Bristol, Conn., in Forestville.

Born in Lee on Jan. 26, 1918, son of Thomas and Agnes Carty Tyer, he was a graduate of St. Mary's Parochial School and a 1935 graduate of Lee High School. He had resided in Connecticut for the past eight years.

Mr. Tyer was employed by the former Smith Paper Co. until joining the Army in World War II. After the service, he went to New York City, where he attended the Renouard School of Embalming and Funeral Directing. He later worked in that field for a few years in the White Plains (N.Y.) area.

He moved to Albany in 1977, where he worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Albany until retiring in 1980.

He leaves a sister, Ann E. Calabrese of Torrington, Conn.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Joseph E. Tyer, formerly of Lee, will be held Fridayat 9:15 a.m. from KELLY FUNERAL HOME in Lee, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Mary's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours at Kelly Funeral Home will be Thursday from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations to St. Mary's School in care of the funeral home.
